Provides experiences with a variety of ceramic materials, methods, ideas, and forms through a series of hands-on assignments. Includes hand-forming processes, sculptural and functional approaches. Provides an introduction to glaze and kiln technology. Includes consideration of historical and cultural origins and development of ceramic art forms as well as contemporary approaches to hand-built ceramic work. Emphasis on understanding the properties of clay and glaze in order to develop greater visual and expressive capabilities in the medium. Not open to students who have earned credit for AR 2210.
