Hello from Amanda at Plymouth State University

Hi! My name is Amanda Rodriguez and I want to tell you about some of the academic programs at PSU. I’m a senior Marketing major with a minor in Media Studies and I’m super excited to be one of the first students to graduate from the newly established College of Business Administration (COBA) here at PSU! It feels good to be part of something that’s growing the way COBA and Plymouth State are, but it also feels good to to be part of a program with such strong traditions: PSU students have won high honors in the Small Business Institute’s national competitions for 11 years in a row!

In addition to my major in Marketing, I’m the VP of Human Resources for the Marketing Association of Plymouth State (MAPS), the PSU chapter of the American Marketing Association (AMA). Student organizations like MAPS are a big part of life at PSU, and being involved has given me real-life experience and allowed me to go to conferences and events that have helped me develop my professional network. That experience has added a lot to my résumé and will help me stand out as I enter the job market this coming May.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) priority filing deadline is March 1! Visit the Financial Aid office for more details, or watch the video on how to file.

PSU’s financial aid award notification process for new students starts in March. Admitted students in degree-seeking programs should check myPlymouth to ensure their application is complete. Additional application instructions are at the Financial Aid office.

PSU President Sara Jayne Steen is set to give opening remarks at the upcoming prospective student open house on President’s Day, February 15th.

Open house events give students the best opportunity to see the campus and community as our students experience it every day. We’ll even treat you to lunch in our dining hall (yes, we’re confident you’ll say the food is a treat too). You’ll have an opportunity to attend classes, meet our students, and speak with admissions, financial aid, residential life, and other departments that are essential to starting your career at PSU.

We’re proud to have so many students volunteer to show off our campus during our weekday information sessions and tours. The admissions information sessions are run by staff, but we’re glad to let our students lead you through our 138 year old campus. They share the stories that matter most to them, and you get a chance to ask questions that only students can answer.

But the demands of the academic calendar take precedence, so there are no tours during finals week or through the holiday break. It’s hard to believe it, but our last tour of 2009 will be on December 11th. Here’s the full schedule (click the time to register):

We always look forward to hearing from applicants and visitors interested in applying to Plymouth State University, but the office will be closing at 3 PM on Wednesday so that we may enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with our families. We’ll be back in action on Monday, November 30th to process your applications, requests for viewbooks, and other inquiries.

We offer tours of campus almost every weekday. Our schedule and RSVP options are posted online for easy access; if you can’t visit before Thanksgiving, we look forward to seeing you soon after.

Schedule Now! Upcoming Tours and Open Houses

You can come for a tour almost any weekday, but this month we have two open houses and a Saturday information session planned. In addition to a campus tour, open house participants can attend a class and meet with admissions, financial aid, or staff in other offices. Saturday sessions include discussion with a panel of students along with the tour.

Want to catch a game? The leaves are just off the trees and it still feels like fall, but hockey season has already started. The Panther Women will be playing five home games through November and the beginning of December. The men’s team picks up from there with a long stretch of home games through December and January.

What is the average class size?

Our average class size is around 23 students.

How soon will I get my admission decision?

Plymouth State has rolling admission. It will be approximately four to six weeks from the time of your completed application until you receive a decision.

Can students study abroad even in their freshman year?

Yes. Plymouth State offers students a unique experience to attend Limerick University in Ireland for the 1st semester of your freshman year. More information about this exciting program can be found on the Global Education Office web site.

Is there a study abroad program at Plymouth State?
