Ed, Professor Emeritus of Mathematics, began his 40 years of teaching at Plymouth State in 1966. In addition, he served terms as mathematics chair and as dean. He was on numerous campus committees and represented PSU in several USNH level capacities. His two favorite teaching topics are the mathematics of finance and the number theory basis of K-12 mathematics.
Wixson’s business experiences include 15 years as director of New Hampshire Electric Cooperative (NHEC) and six years as director of the Virginia based National Rural Utilities Cooperative Finance Corporation (NRUCFC), which currently has $20+ billion in loans nationwide. Currently, Ed is a director of Community Guaranty Savings Bank, a director of Speare Memorial Hospital, plus a director of Capital Regional Development Council (CDRC) of Concord, a statewide economic development entity. CDRC recently completed a 22 new jobs/multimillion dollar project at Boulder point here in Plymouth.
Ed and his wife Marilyn (also a longtime PSU mathematics teacher) recently endowed the Wixson Professorship of Mathematics. In a recent interview he said, “One can learn philanthropy. When you give to further the mission of PSU, you demonstrate directly our motto Ut prosim.” In June of 2011, Ed received the Madie Barrett award for his dedication to PSU and the community.
