David Kelly ’04
BS in Outdoor Recreation
After graduating magna cum laude, David Kelly ’04 began his career at Second Nature, a wilderness therapy program, in Duchesne, Utah. His love for the outdoors and interest in working with young adults brought him to Alaska where he worked at Alaska Crossings Wilderness Expeditions, an experiential program provider for youth with mental health issues. He’s patrolled various Rocky Mountains ski areas, navigated the Green River in Utah as a river ranger, and served as an instructor for Adventure Treks and the National Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS).
Needless to say, Kelly was attracted to the many outdoor activities Plymouth State’s White Mountain location offers. “Plymouth is located really close to great skiing, climbing, hiking, and biking. That was a big factor for me. Plymouth is a great location to be able to play hard outside of school, but not distracting enough so you won’t graduate.”
On being named one of Plymouth State’s Top Graduating Seniors, Kelly remarks, “I learned a lot about myself while at Plymouth and being named a Top Graduate enabled me to see that Plymouth and I had a symbiotic relationship. I hope that I contributed as much to the Plymouth community as I received from it.”
