Helenjane Doyle Hanson Helenjane has three children, Kevin, Sean and Patricia, and two grandchildren, Margaret and Katherine. She received her Bachelor of Science at the University of Maryland in 1956. Since then she has worked as a volunteer at the Heart and Cancer Association, as town coordinator for Governor Candidate John W. King, on the Platform Committee on Education, as chairperson on the Robert Frost Contemporary American Award Committee and as vice president of the Alumni Association. Helenjane is currently a member of the Space Needs Committee for the town of Hillsborough and the Plymouth State University Alumni Association Board of Directors. In the past, she has served on the following Board committees: Executive, Legislative, Nominating, Planning, Phonathon, Alumni Service Award, Alumni/Admission Information, and as Class Agent for the Class of 1953. She has also served on the Planning Committee and as mistress of ceremonies for area meeting of Beta Sigma Phi, which honored Gail Kelly Thompson, wife of the then Governor Meldrim Thompson Jr. Her services were also called upon as a consultant to the planning committee for Homecoming and mistress of ceremonies for the annual Alumni Meeting and Roll Call Luncheon for PSCAA (now PSUAA). In her spare time she enjoys swimming, reading and singing. In the past she has been part of the church choir and local productions in Concord. Her travels include trips to Jamaica, Aruba, Ireland and many times to New York. If she had the chance to relive it again: “The spring and summer of 1953 when I was in love, I was to graduate, I had a teaching contract for the fall and a job for the summer! If the rain fell at all that summer I certainly don’t remember it. There seemed to be one glorious summer day after another. My golden days were unblemished, stretching endlessly towards the future. Everything was possible.” If she could do any one thing: She would be a “gypsy” or a party/event planner. She would also sing, dance, be with people and do all the things in life that she enjoys doing. Future plans: Spend as much time as possible with family, while keeping active and independent. “The greatest gift you can give your children is your autonomy, in my view (with acknowledgement to Dr. Bouchard.)” |
