From the President

President Steen

Welcome to the Plymouth State University Annual Report for the academic year 2005-2006.

Annual reports provide the University’s shareholders with a clear summary of activities, from new faculty hires to financial statements. In an effort to remain accountable and even extend our reach to readers who might not have received our print publication, we are this year making the annual report available online. In doing so, we also are being good stewards of our resources, since the savings in publication costs can be applied to other expenses. What continues unchanged is our commitment to providing useful information clearly and concisely.

PSU, founded in 1871, is a comprehensive regional university with a tradition of excellence in teaching and a commitment to innovation and engagement. In what follows, you will learn about strong student enrollments, first-rate new faculty, excellent undergraduate and graduate programs, innovative non-traditional educational programs, and increases in sponsored research and endowment giving. We are choosing to honor our partners and donors both here and in the Winter 2007 issue of Plymouth Magazine. Their generosity enables us to provide a margin of excellence for students, and student success is our goal.

An annual report, however, cannot begin to capture the energy and vitality of an engaged university community. I hope that you will visit our Web site regularly for recent news and come to campus for lectures, performances, sporting events, and other activities. The people of Plymouth State University are our most important stories, and I would love to have you meet them.
