Adventure Education

In addition to the general departmental outcomes, Adventure Education majors are able to:

  1. Display personal competence in a variety of technical outdoor skills including all season backcountry expeditions, ropes-challenge courses, environmental care, technical rock climbing, mountaineering and varied forms of water-based travel. 

  2. Demonstrate safe and effective leadership and teaching skills in a variety of outdoor activities

  3. Practice and promote professional standards of risk management, policies, procedures and protocols

  4. Demonstrate backcountry emergency skills at the level of Wilderness First Responder

  5. Demonstrate competent programming, processing and facilitation skills including assessment of client groups, planning and conducting adventure based learning experiences and conduct program evaluations.  

  6. Conduct group framings, discussions and debriefings that incorporate analysis, reflection, frontloading and metaphors. 

  7. Demonstrate flexible leadership styles, effective problem solving, decision-making and judgment skills. 

  8. Describe and demonstrate ethical administrative practices appropriate to an entry level position in Adventure Education.
