Communication Studies

The faculty members of the Communication Studies Department have identified four broad outcomes for our students that our major curricula should foster.  The most essential abilities and skills that Communication Studies faculty desire in their graduates are:

(1) proficiency in written communication (the ability to write clearly and well);

(2) proficiency in oral communication and public speaking;

(3) exposure to, and understanding of, a wide range of communication theory;

                        and

(4) the ability to apply communication theory and critical-thinking skills        effectively to specific projects and real-world situations.

These are the abilities and skills that the department’s assessment plan is designed to assess, along with overall student satisfaction with the Communication Studies learning experience.
