HPER Department Mission

The HPER Department at PSU provides a learning environment that engages students, supports academic excellence and encourages innovation, outreach and service by both faculty and students.  Programs of study are designed to prepare knowledgeable and responsible practitioners who appreciate and support the holistic pursuit of health and happiness for and by all. 

 

Global Departmental Outcomes

Students completing majors in the disciplines presented by the HPER department have the knowledge, skills and dispositions appropriate for an entry level professional or practitioner.  Across all the disciplines, successful graduates are able to:  

 

1.  Describe and discuss the history, philosophies and theoretical basis of their discipline.

2.  Demonstrate a functional knowledge of key concepts, connections amongst disciplines and sub-disciplines, methods of inquiry, pedagogy and professional standards.

3.  Gather, assess, analyze, evaluate and synthesize information in varied forms and ways.

4.  Demonstrate and apply a variety of psychomotor skills competently and with confidence.

5.  Communicate and collaborate effectively with others and utilize a variety of methods and technologies for information transfer.

6.  Demonstrate enthusiasm, engagement, commitment and personal ethics in curricular and co-curricular involvements.
