Lamson Library Mission and Goals

Library Mission:  Lamson Library supports the curricular and social goals of the University mission by providing access to library and electronic resources.  Through our collection of resources, our service orientation and our various programs and displays, we strive to provide organized access to the record of human discovery and achievement and to the diversity of human experience and culture.

Goal #1.           Through our services, including reference and library instruction, we will  foster and develop student competence and confidence in finding, using, and critically evaluating print, media, and electronic information resources.  Our goal is not only to assist students with their immediate needs but also to empower them with the skills and enthusiasm necessary for lifelong learning.

Goal  #2.          We will design, facilitate and encourage electronic access to our resources not only to patrons in the building, but also to on-campus constituents in their residence halls and offices – and also to those at remote locations.

Goa l #3.          We will share our resource and expertise with members of the campus, the library profession, the Plymouth community, region and the state.

Goal  #4.          We will work closely with the faculty of other departments to assure congruence among the university mission, curricular needs and library goals.

Goal  #5.          We will provide a comfortable physical environment conducive to individual and group study and instruction.
