College and University Housing- Educational Benchmarking

We have participated in this process for three years now and plan to

continue this year as well.  We survey all students who live on campus.

Surveys are reviewed as a department.  We determine who should be informed of the results and forward our recommendations to the appropriate department. Additionally, during our summer department retreat we review this info. and use the data to develop our training program for new staff and in setting our goals for the year.

For example, the results of the EBI indicated dissatisfaction particularly in housekeeping in the residence halls and several areas within dining have scored low as well. In addition it was noted that internet access was very important for each person in a room.

As a result, we met with physical plant and have appropriated additional funding to improve the facilities overall, and have also focused on the both cleaning and physical improvements in the residence halls. In addition physical plant is committed to more staffing on weekends for cleaning.

In relation to dining, we recently completed a 4.5 million dollar upgrade to the facility and changed the overall program to provide better service to our students.

Regarding internet access, we have updated all rooms to have multiple ports, including permanent "triples" so that ALL students may have high speed internet access at the same time.
