The social sciences are recognized as being
broadly multidisciplinary. As such the outcomes of
each major and the assessment of the same must vary within
each discipline. For the social sciences in general,
the following outcomes/abilities are pertinent:

communication

critical/analytical thinking
-
research and
presentation of research results
-
knowledge of
discipline specific methodologies and theories
-
understanding
of the application of a particular discipline

uses of
computer technology
More specifically, these are the following:

Demonstrate
the ability to reach and support conclusions based upon
available, sometimes conflicting, information
-
Demonstrate
the ability to communicate clearly and correctly in
writing by such assignments as research papers, reaction
papers, essay examinations and journals

Demonstrate
the ability to communicate clearly and correctly in such
oral exercises as speeches, debates, research reports
and summaries of reading assignments
-
Demonstrate
skill in the use of computer technology to communicate
with individuals and groups by such mean as E-mail,
discussion groups, website construction and power point
presentations

Demonstrate
the ability to gather and analyze information using a
variety of resources
-
Perform high
quality research by gathering, analyzing and reaching
reasoned conclusions based on both quantitative and
qualitative data and present the results orally and in
writing

Demonstrate
preparedness for an entry level professional position,
or
-
Demonstrate
preparedness for admission to a graduate or
professional educational program
