Died Died 1917.
Abbat studied at Cooper Union and the Nation Academy. She studied under James D. Smillie and R. Swain Gifford. Abbat exhibited at the Brooklyn Art Club in 1875 and at the NAD in 1881. When she exhibited at the NAD, she lived at 337 4th Ave., N.Y.C. She painted flowers and landscapes in watercolor and oils. She was elected to the NAD in 1902.

ALLEN, MARION BOYD

Marion Boyd Allen was born and raised in Boston in 1862. Little is known about her early schooling. She didn't begin her art career until she was forty years old, when she began studying at the School of Boston Museum of Fine Arts in 1902. She studied under such masters as Edmund Tarbell and Frank Weston Benson. In 1905 she married William Allen, and became a widow in 1911. She had no children. She was well known as a portrait artist, her most famous portrait was of sculptor Anna Vaughn Hyett. Allen's art was in many exhibits during her lifetime and she was also a member of the Gild of Boston Artists. She traveled west in the 1920s where she painted landscapes and portraits of Native Americans. She visited New Hampshire in 1937 and painted several landscapes.
