Student Support Foundation ~ Funding Guidelines

The Student Support Foundation (SSF) offers two types of grants:

Requests from Students

  • The limit of funding is a maximum of $200, with average grants being around $75-$100 to each recipient.
  • Funding is only granted for those students currently enrolled and taking classes at Plymouth State University.
  • Requests are accepted the week before the start of a semester through the week before finals each semester. A student board reviews and decides on all applications and does not convene during Winterim or the summer.
  • Examples of items that can be funded with a grant:
  • Examples of items that cannot be funded with a grant:
    • Tuition
    • Counseling services (provided free by the Counseling & Human Relations Center on campus)
    • Cell phones/cell phone bills
    • Utility bills
    • Parking tickets
    • PSU fees (for example, course overload fees, sorority/fraternity fees)
    • Non-PSU fees (for example, graduate school applications)
    • Requests made by Student Organizations at PSU
  • To receive help, please fill out the confidential application form (PDF or MS Word).  Submit the form to student.support.foundation@plymouth.edu (the preferred method) or drop it off at the Reflection and Spiritual Care Center, located at the back of Samuel Read Hall Hall, on Highland Street (across from Lamson Library).

    IMPORTANT: The application must say “Form updated 05/26/09” or later. Earlier versions of the application will not be accepted.
  • The program advisors, Preston Fuller and Kathy Tardif, contact the requestors to clarify the needs and determine if there are other needs for support—financial and otherwise—that the requestor has. Once any clarification has been obtained, the requests are sent via email to the student board, who has 48 hours to consider the requests and come to a consensus about funding the request.

Requests from Faculty and Staff

  • The limit of funding is a maximum of $200, with average grants being around $75-$100 to each recipient.
  • Funding is only granted for faculty and staff working with Plymouth State University students.
  • Requests are accepted the week before the start of a semester through the week before finals each semester. A student board reviews and decides on all applications and does not convene during Winterim or the summer.
  • Examples of student-implemented projects that can be funded with a grant:
    • Printing expense for resource information packet for incoming single parents
    • Expense for starting a program for students returning from Iraq and Afghanistan
    • Mileage reimbursement for students delivering items such as Christmas gifts or meals to people in the community
  • Examples of items that cannot be funded with a grant:
    • Projects designed and implemented by PSU departments or offices as part of their normal mission
    • Projects for which funding could have been sought from the Student Senate or has been sought and rejected by the Student Senate
  • To receive help, please fill out the confidential application form (PDF or MS Word).  Submit the form to student.support.foundation@plymouth.edu (the preferred method) or drop it off at the Reflection and Spiritual Care Center, located at the back of Samuel Read Hall Hall, on Highland Street (across from Lamson Library).
  • The program advisors, Preston Fuller and Kathy Tardif, contact the requestors to clarify the needs. The requests are then sent via email to the student board, who has four business days to consider the requests and come to a consensus about funding the request.
