A Customized Study Abroad Program in London, England

Study Abroad in LondonPlymouth State University students have been studying abroad at Roehampton University since Spring 2007 in cooperation with Center for International Studies (CIS). Located just five stops outside of Waterloo Station in Surrey, and still in Metropolitan London, the Roehampton campus is a magnificent park complete with beautiful lakes and ponds surrounded by both historic and purpose-built university buildings.

PSU features three programs of study at Roehampton University. The programs were chosen because the Roehampton course offerings in these areas of study benefit from an international perspective. PSU faculty from each of these three disciplines have visited Roehampton and worked with their colleagues to ensure a smooth transition for your coursework back to Plymouth. Those PSU faculty and their counterparts from an important support network for students electing to spend a semester or year at Roehampton University.

Business

The growing dynamic of the European economic community, the influence of the Internet in a global economy and the need for U.S. based businesses to understand and appreciate cross-cultural approaches to business are the ingredients that make a semester studying business at Roehampton a cutting edge addition to your résumé.

Childhood Studies

Roehampton offers more than one degree in the area of Childhood Education so the array of offerings and the expertise of the faculty are rich. Students from PSU will be stimulated by the British education model and will have an opportunity to do some fieldwork and observations in traditional British classroom settings.

Criminal Justice

There is more cross-Atlantic traffic as the United Kingdom and U.S. share expertise and personnel in a variety of Criminal Justice areas. Roehampton presents a marvelous selection of courses for Criminal Justice majors to enhance their degrees.

Located six miles from the heart of London in the Wimbledon neighborhood and set in a beautiful parkland, it combines the green field campuses with close proximity to London. As a university, it enjoys a strong community atmosphere where students feel at home and have a sense of being known as a person rather than a number.

Cost and Semester Dates

Study Abroad in LondonSpring Semester: $12,800
Fall Semester: $13,975

This cost includes full-time tuition, housing in self-catered, single room apartments, airport reception, pre-departure and reentry orientation programs, an on-site university orientation program, kitchen pack (crockery and cutlery), refundable bedding deposit, cell phone, and two day excursions (sample locations include Bath, Windsor Castle, Stonehenge, and Brighton).

Study Abroad in LondonHow does teaching and learning differ in England?
The U.S. and U.K. education systems do vary in methodology and this is part of the study abroad experience. U. K. students may only be required to attend three or four classes a week but there is considerable emphasis on student-centered learning and initiative. Students are expected to undertake significant amounts of self-study in the form or reading, research and coursework outside their classroom commitments.

How do I choose my courses?
You will work with your study abroad advisor at the Bagley Center - Office of International Programs and your on-campus Roehampton University advisor within your department to select courses that will apply to your particular degree program (Note: 10 Roehampton credits = 3 U.S. credit hours approximately).

What support services are available to me?
Roehampton University provides a comprehensive package of support services ranging from practical support services ranging from academic support within the state-of-the-art Learning Resources Center to the counseling support that will help you successfully complete your studies.

Where will I live?
Housing on campus is guaranteed for all study abroad students provided you apply by the deadline. Rooms are single study bedrooms most with private bathrooms and Internet connections.

Study Abroad in LondonWhat GPA do I need?
To qualify for study abroad at Roehampton, you will be required to have an overall GPA minimum of 2.7. Applications will be considered on an individual basis, however.

Tell me about life in London.
Studying at Roehampton means one of the most famous capital cities in the world is at your doorstep—London! All the attractions of this great city including its wonderful museums and galleries, theatre and nightlife are available to you.

The Roehampton campus provides plenty of social and recreational activities that are enhanced by the community. If you want to explore further, the International Office at Roehampton organizes a variety of excursions and social events that will provide wonderful memories of your time in the U. K.

Application Deadlines

These popular programs fill up quickly so early application is advised. Applications for the spring semester should be received by May 1 and those for spring by November 15.To qualify for study abroad at Roehampton, you are required to have an overall GPA of 2.6. Applications forms are available from The Bagley Center.
