![]() Extended-Day Kindergarten Program(child must be enrolled in Center Kindergarten program to attend)The Extended-Day Kindergarten program provides after-school care and enrichment activities for children enrolled in the Center Kindergarten program. Children in the Extended Day program have opportunities to participate in interesting and enjoyable activities in a relaxed, low-key atmosphere. Children who stay for the Extended Day participate in quiet activities after lunch. For those children who feel the need to lie down and rest, mats are provided. Most kindergarten children prefer to use this time for reading and sharing a quiet book with a friend. After a quiet period, children have the opportunities to choose from a variety of different activities, such as listening to tapes, playing with Legos and other construction materials, computer games, art activities, dramatic play, explorations of reading and writing, and music and movement. Children in the Extended Day program go outside at least once each afternoon. In addition to playground time, they frequently go on walking trips in the neighborhood. Long-term projects, such as drama productions, are a feature of the Extended Day program as well. Children are served a nutritious snack and a beverage each afternoon.
