Chemistry

How many of our chemistry program graduates have careers in chemistry or have gone on to graduate or medical school? All of them.
The chemistry program is pleased to offer the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. This program continues the proud tradition at PSU of rigorous academic preparation of students for a variety of career options. The program includes innovative activity-based learning in small classroom settings. Integration of chemistry majors within the program provides opportunities for students to work closely with faculty and staff as teaching assistants, tutors, and laboratory preparers.
The options in the Bachelor of Science degree provide opportunities for students to focus their interest in the areas of environmental chemistry, biochemistry, and chemical education. The environmental chemistry option offers students the unique ability to work with the Center for the Environment, a unique center which address the science, policies, culture and economics of the natural environment in northern New England. The biochemistry option is a popular program at PSU due to exciting developments in biochemistry and biotechnology as well as our students' interest in professional careers in the medical field. The chemical education option is designed to continue the long-standing commitment at PSU to prepare secondary school teachers for rewarding careers. All options, except chemical education, include a senior research project under the direction of chemistry faculty.
This exciting program is housed in the Boyd Science Center which includes state-of-the-art laboratories and classrooms. A chemistry student center is available for tutoring and student interaction.
