This paper proposes the development of an integrative, immersive, and diverse placebasedundergraduate program focused on the nature, culture, and economics of theNorthern Forest region of New York, Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine. Such aprogram in Northern Forest Studies capitalizes on a developing inter-institutionaldialogue begun in November, 2008 within the framework of the Northern Forest HigherEducation Resource Network (NFHERN) to draw on existing offerings in colleges anduniversities across the region in the framework of a broad, regional consortium ofprograms and courses.
