Communication & Media Studies

As a student in the Department of Communication and Media Studies, you will gain theoretical and practical knowledge that can be applied to a career in film, television, advertising, public relations, print and broadcast journalism, mass communication, media studies, media writing, online communication, marketing, sales, promotion, and a variety of other fields.  In the process, you will learn more about the world (and yourself).

As a Communication and Media Studies student you'll experience:

  • A bachelor's degree program with options in film and media studies or professional communication
  • Minors in media studies, digital media and game design, and professional communication
  • A variety of media production courses including Film and Video Production Techniques, Introduction to Game Design and Development, and Advanced Video Art Production
  • Frequent special topics courses that have recently included African-American Popular Culture, Alternative Visions in Cinema, Film and Television Stardom, Sports and Communication, and Television and Terrorism
  • Regular on-site media studies conferences that draw presenters and participants from across the United States and around the world
