The major option in Film and Media Studies lets you explore media history, theory and criticism in relation to films, television shows, radio programs, print media offerings and emerging technologies. This is an excellent choice for students who plan careers or graduate study in the fields of film, television, advertising, public relations, print and broadcast journalism, mass communication, media studies, media writing, online communication and related areas.
The major option in Professional Communication lets you explore various approaches to persuasive communication. You will learn to identify and apply theories and techniques for effective communication in a variety of professional settings. This option could be for you if you plan a career or graduate study in the fields of communication, advertising, marketing, public relations, sales, promotion, professional writing, sports information or related areas.
Every Communication Studies major completes a capstone experience before graduating. For some students, this experience is an exciting internship with a television station or public relations firm. For others, the capstone involves writing an innovative screenplay, shooting and editing an intriguing short film, analyzing the cinematic works of a specific director, or carrying out original research on a topic of interest.
