Jim Gleich has been involved with theatre for many years and has intensely studied the art of theatrical/stage combat. These are specialized techniques designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. The term is also used informally to describe fight choreography for film and television. It is a common field of study for actors and dancers and is closely related to the practice of stunts. Campers will be learning the basic skills of Hand-to-Hand combat, rolling, simple falls, choreography notation/analysis, stage combat history, and introduction to single sword techniques. All students will perform their class fight each day at the end of class. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a pad and pencil for notes. Click HERE to Register

In collaboration with Plymouth State University, the Theatre Boreal Institute focuses on artistic collaboration, theatre education and ensemble creation. Together, we build original theatrical productions centered on community. The Institute strives to instill a sense of creativity, community engagement and professional training in the White Mountains Region of New Hampshire. The inaugural session of the Institute will take place from June 17-22, 2013 at Plymouth State University’s Silver Center for the Arts.

This week-long intensive will expose students to master classes on various performance and pedagogical techniques taught by theatre professionals from New England. In the afternoons and evenings, students will put those new practices to work in rehearsal of an original performance. The final phase of the institute will allow the students to perform their original work for the community.
