LEGO Engineering Camp for Boys and Girls Entering 3rd or 4th Grade – All New!

Our focus for campers will be using several new sets of advanced Lego parts, being presented with challenging model builds, and learning about and using pneumatics. Lessons will demonstrate the use of mechanical lifts, nets, drills, ramps, and more. Campers will explore and experiment with power systems, sequence and control, pressure prototyping, kinetic and potential energy. They will also be delving into “missions,” that involve real world challenges and are solved through critical thinking, science and technology. Of course, battlebots will be part of the fun again this year. Spaces are limited.

Summer Arts Camp – artistic endeavors for children who are in or entering middle school

Leslie has some intriguing projects for Art Endeavors this summer including making mistakes great, making graffiti objects into art, creating mosaics, and printmaking.  This is the perfect camp for budding artists where they can deeply concentrate and enjoy creating a personal work of art each day. In addition, campers are invited to skate at the PSU rink on HOT afternoons. ($5 with skates and $7 w skate rental.)

Theatrical/Stage Combat Camp

Jim Gleich has been involved with theatre for many years and has intensely studied the art of theatrical/stage combat. These are specialized techniques designed to create the illusion of physical combat without causing harm to the performers. The term is also used informally to describe fight choreography for film and television. It is a common field of study for actors and dancers and is closely related to the practice of stunts. Campers will be learning the basic skills of Hand-to-Hand combat, rolling, simple falls, choreography notation / analysis, stage combat history, and introduction to single sword techniques. All students will perform their class fight each day at the end of class. Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a pad and pencil for notes.
