Free Clinic Opens in Whole Village

Plymouth State University's M.Ed. in Counseling Education program has joined with the Whole Village Resource Center to provide counseling services to the community. The partnership enables counseling students to gain valuable clinical experience.

"The clinic is staffed by the core faculty of our counseling education program and by counselors-in-training," says Gail Mears, coordinator of graduate mental health counseling programs and director of the clinic.

"The center provides space for the clinic and it will serve as a training facility for our counselors-in-training during their 100-hour practicum," she noted.

Mears and Counselor Education Coordinator Gary Goodnough met with community and campus service providers to identify potential unmet counseling needs that the clinic could provide. Services supplied by counselors-in-training will be closely supervised by PSU counseling faculty.
