Course Description: We are a nation that is rich in diversity, so much so, that we celebrate our individuality in many unique ways. Too often, these differences in “race”, ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender, ability, age, socioeconomic class, religion and more, create barriers to our understanding and connection as a society. Each of us has grown within a structured culture. Aware of the unique methods of this culture or not, we can easily identify, without conscious effort, those others who fit within our cultural norms and those individuals or groups who do not. We can liken these diverse groups we encounter as windows along an avenue into which we can peer to begin our understanding of their similarities and differences from our own. This course is designed to be a pathway along which we will explore these differences and attempt to develop an understanding of them.
