The Karl Drerup Art Gallery is pleased to exhibit the paintings of Master Yang Jikui.
Yang Jikui is a painter and educator from ShanXi province, China. He studied with Yang Xiuzhen in the tradition of Qi Baishi, an icon of Modern Chinese Art History. The paintings shown here have birds, fish and flowers as his subjects, and are painted in ink on paper. Master Yang has exhibited and lectured in China, Japan, Philadelphia, Massachusetts, and at Columbia University in New York.

Art that Transcends Borders: A Personal Cross-Cultural Appreciation of the Painting of Yang Jikui
Dr. Roger Dunn

Roger Dunn made his first trip to China in 1988 when he met Yang Jikui and first became acquainted with his art. Dr. Dunn has kept in touch with Yang Jikui over the years, and has followed the artist’s work and career. Dr. Dunn’s remarks will deal with the artist and his work in the context of Chinese Traditions and Modernist Movements. Roger Dunn is Professor of Art History at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. He received his PHD in Art History from Northwestern University and an MFA in Painting from Brooklyn College.
