BS in Art Education

Art Education Mission

Art and Visual Culture engage viewers and makers in acts of creating, looking and responding to art in our lives. The quest for personal and social meaning is central to the study of Art and Education. Guided by the principles of constructivist pedagogy and best practices in education, we seek to model inquiry based instruction, authentic assessment and interdisciplinary integration. We aim to provide our students with a dynamic conceptual base and repertoire of applied skills essential for the study of art and art education. We aim to cultivate creativity, critical thinking, skillful communication, real world connections and social agency through discussion, collaborative learning, art making, research, community service and internships. These experiences will provide our students with a foundation for their personal investigation of life, culture and teaching.
