About Professor Martin
David is an Associate Professor of Graphic Design at PSU. He acquired both his MFA (1993) and BS (1977) degrees in Graphic Design from the University of Cincinnati in Cincinnati, Ohio.
In his teaching, David is able to draw upon fifteen years’ experience as a practicing designer. His employment from 1978 to 1985 was as a Graphic Designer and Art Director for Bottoni & Hsiung Associates, Cincinnati, Ohio. B&H specialized in layout, design, graphic production & project management for a complete range of clients in the Cincinnati area. B&H won many awards for their cutting-edge design work and was recognized as a Cincinnati leader for their progressive graphics.
From 1985 to 1993, David was employed as an Art Director by the George Tassian Organization, Cincinnati, Ohio. GTO specialized in layout, design, and project management for a wide range of companies and corporations located throughout the United States, but included multi-national accounts like Wendy’s International. Extensive computer production capabilities, annual reports, packaging and total client services were their design specialties. GTO was one of the most prestigious design firms in Cincinnati, with a full-time staff of twelve individuals.
Over the years, David won several awards for his work, including Best of Show at the 1988 Cincinnati Art Directors’ Club-with an annual report design he created for Eagle-Picher Industries International. David has also won several other Gold and Silver AD awards for brochure and annual report designs, while employed at GTO.
A few of David’s nationally-recognized works include: 1) Logo design for the U.S. Cycling Team, Denver, CO. The mark is featured on bicycle frames, helmets, clothing and all misc. corporate collateral; 2) Baby Alive Logo and Packaging design, for Hasbro/Kenner Corporation, Cincinnati, OH. This logo and package design was selected for use on all doll boxes and accessories produced; 3) Litton Industries, Inc., Corporate Design Collateral, Hollywood, CA. This series of catalogs was published for all Litton corporate divisions and affiliates throughout the world.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities at Plymouth State, David maintains a private practice in Graphic Design. He specializes in creating logos, brochures, promotional campaigns, websites and corporate collateral for a variety of clients and service organizations throughout the country.
David is married to Jacqulyn Jewell, and has two children, Rachel and Joel. He and his family reside in Holderness, NH where they share a 200-year old cape, antique barn and 14 acres with their 2 horses, 2 dogs, cat and several chickens.
