David Kent joined the Plymouth State faculty in 1971. As a lawyer in New Hampshire and Massachusetts, his primary responsibilities were teaching law and real estate topics. As the Business Department grew David, working with Professor Buck, built a Masters of Business Administration program that was taught at five locations around New Hampshire in the evening and as a full-time program at Plymouth. David’s responsibilities then shifted to teaching both graduate and undergraduate courses. As an adjunct to his teaching responsibilities, Professor Kent was appointed as a part-time Judge in what is now the Circuit Court of New Hampshire. He served as Department Chair in the Business Department and toward the end of his full-time career at PSU, he was asked to develop a program in Criminal Justice and as the program started, he became the first the Chair of the Criminal Justice Department. He has served as a program evaluator for the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and the State of New Hampshire.
Most of David’s scholarly work was done in the real estate law field. For many years he headed the Center for Real Estate Education Development at Plymouth and taught the review courses that licensed real estate professionals were required attend. His New Hampshire Modern Real Estate Practice was used in most licensing courses throughout the state. He became noted for his work in Land Use and Zoning Law and he was of-council for a law firm in Plymouth.
Professor Kent has studied and taught abroad at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland; the State University in Fortaleza, Brazil; and the University of Adelaide, Australia. His honors include serving as Danforth Associate, participating in the Quebec Summer Seminar, presentations at the Federal University Faculty of Law, Fortaleza, Brazil, and the Institute of Advocates of Ceara. he received the Distinguished Graduate Teaching Award in Business Administration at PSU and is an honorary member of Phi Kappa Phi. and Alpha Phi Sigma.
