After eighteen years living in Massachusetts, as a young, single mother, I followed my family to Arizona. Shortly after, I earned my AA in English and journalism at Cochise Community College. While working as a media specialist for the University of Arizona, I returned to school to earn my BA in English, with a minor in creative writing, from the University of Arizona.
It was at these institutions that I developed my love of learning and my admiration for an incredible set of educators and mentors, many of whom, like me, were non-traditional students, in particular, busy mothers balancing education, careers, and motherhood. I wanted to give back by carrying on their passionate and inspiring teaching traditions.
While grateful for my experiences in Arizona, the desert never quite suited this New Englander. When the opportunity presented itself, I packed up my two girls and headed back home to New England, where I completed my M.Ed. in English Education here at Plymouth State, and began teaching after receiving an internship opportunity teaching composition.
