American Musical Theatre, a unique art form combining script, music, lyrics and dance, found its roots in European musical and dramatic traditions and its inspiration and voice in the diverse fabric of humanity that defines the United States. With operetta as its basis, musical theatre developed into a form that embraced the musical, cultural and societal differences of the United States. Focusing on dramatic themes, musical styles, dance innovations and the artistic elements of musical theatre, explores the artists, producers and audiences that reflected the changing viewpoints, beliefs and lifestyles of the nation.
