 About Professor McBournie

Sandra has been in higher education teaching nursing since 2006. She graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell earning a BS in Nursing in 1990. In 2006 she earned a Master of Education degree from Plymouth State University with a concentration in Integrative Health. She has a clinical background in a variety of areas, with a primary focus in critical and emergency care, and holistic nursing. She holds a Certificate in Alternative Health & Healing from Plymouth State University.

Prior to joining PSU, Sandra was the Nursing Professional Development Coordinator and Nursing faculty member at NHTI-Concord’s Community College teaching in both the LPN and RN programs. Clinically, she works at Loon Mountain First Aid Center in Lincoln, New Hampshire. She is a member of the New Hampshire Nurses Association Commission on Continuing Education, and a founding member and Network Leader for the NH Chapter of the American Holistic Nurses Association. She belongs to the American Nurses Association, National League for Nurses and is actively involved in the American Holistic Nurses Association. Prior areas of research focus include medication safety and quality. She co-authored Medication Safety: Implementing a Systems Approach In a Rural Hospital for the Journal of Healthcare Quality (2002). Her graduate capstone project was titled Why Nurses Chose an Alternative to a Baccalaureate Nursing Education in New Hampshire. Future research areas of interest include holism in teaching, patient safety, and optimal learning and healing environments.
