About Professor Healy
Dr. Healy received his M.A. and Ph.D. from the Department of Human Development at the University of Maryland. His specialization during his graduate training was in infant and child psychophysiology. He was involved in several studies that examined hemispheric lateralization for the expression of emotion in addition to the cardiovascular correlates of personality differences in children.
Following the completion of his doctorate, Dr. Healy completed a two year post-doctoral internship in the Departments of Pediatrics and Psychiatry at the University of Miami Medical School. The emphasis of this experience was an examination of the effects of tactile stimulation on the growth patterns of premature infants, in addition to the effects of maternal depression on infant behavior. He also completed a two year position as the Director of Research in Behavioral Pediatrics at the Evanston Hospital in Illinois followed by six years of teaching courses in child development, statistics and neuroscience at Ithaca College in New York. He has been teaching and conducting research at Plymouth State University since 1996.
