Sylvia Bryant, PhD

Sylvia Bryant, PhD, joined Plymouth State on June 1, 2009, as executive director of university advancement.  Sylvia was formerly at Alfred University, Alfred, NY, where she was associate vice president for individual giving with oversight for major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, donor relations and stewardship, and advancement services.  She served as executive director for the $150 million "Building on Excellence" comprehensive campaign, which resulted in the two largest gifts in the history of the institution.  A native of Missouri, she attended the University of Missouri-Rolla and the University of Kansas for undergraduate and graduate degrees, respectively, and holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Washington, with emphasis on 19th-century American literature and feminist theory.  She has two sons, Parker, aged 11, and Duncan, aged 8, and is active in community service.
