Helping Hands Across America
Helping Hands Across America – Help Stop Hunger

Sodexo and the Plymouth State University collected over 2000 pounds of food! Thank you everyone that gave to the Helping Hands Across America over the past couple of weeks.

Helping Hands Across America is a nationwide canned goods drive sponsored annually by Sodexo, Plymouth State’ dining services provider. More than 1,000 Sodexo accounts throughout the country will be working alongside each other to collect donations in their area as part of a monumental effort to provide relief to those in need during these challenging economic times.

Guinness World Record Attempt - November 12th

Guinness World Record Attempt - November 12thAll the cans will be counted and weighed for the Guinness Book of World Records for the largest food drive collected by a non-charitable organization in a 24 hour period on November 12th! In addition to striving to break the Guinness World Record for the most amounts of canned goods and non-perishable items collected in one day, this year we will be collecting monetary donations. All the proceeds will be used to purchase additional non-perishable items. All donations will be given to a local food bank.

For more details on Helping Hands Across America, contact Arianne Szymas at 535-3186 or e-mail at arszymas@plymouth.edu.

What If I Get Sick and Can't Come to Eat?

We all feel "under the weather" from time to time, so if you are unable to join us in the dining room, we have a solution for you. Simply fill out the Sick Meal Request form (PDF, 184 kb) that is available online, and ask your friend (or roommate) on the meal plan to bring the completed form to the dining room manager. Take-out meal for sick students should be ordered at the previous meal.

A Sick Meal will contain similar items for breakfast, lunch, or dinner and consists of the following:

  • Option 1: Soup DuJour, Orange Juice, Crackers
  • Option 2: Apple Juice, Yogurt, Banana

PSU is Trayless Facility to Support Efforts Towards a Sustainable Campus

Dining Services went trayless in spring semester 2008. On campuses nationwide, this initiative has proven to reduce water usage, food waste and electricity. Universities of similar size to PSU have seen food waste reduced by 1/3. This is equivalent to 260 pounds of waste each day!

A trayless cafeteria will also encourage one to make wiser decisions in food choices. For most of us, this will greatly reduce the amount of tempting foods we carry out of the serving area and set in front of ourselves.

In the larger picture, this initiative is helping to reduce landfill waste, cleaning chemicals and water usage, food waste, electricity, sewage cost, preserve natural resources, and reduce our carbon footprint.

Our Mission
To create and offer services that contribute to a more pleasant way of life for people wherever they come together.
