Faculty Diversity Fellowship 2008-2009 – Description & Application
Fellowship duties and application procedure:
The Diversity Faculty Fellowship applicant must submit a brief fellowship project proposal, in executive summary format, that includes:
- Description of proposed project
- Conceptual basis and literature support
- Specific project aims
- Project design [including description of participants/settings/rationale for selection, strategies]
- Measurement methods and evaluation plan
- Relations of proposed project to diversity and discipline
- Contribution of the project to your scholarly/professional activity and/or teaching
- Action/praxis implementation, expected results, and budget
If awarded, the Diversity Faculty Fellow will work in combination with the President’s Commission of Diversity and the administration to develop a detailed list of goals, duties, and deliverables guided by the fellowship proposal. In addition to the specific project actions for the fellowship year, the duties of the fellowship include:
- Implementation and dissemination of a diversity scholarship/service project that will advance the visibility and appreciation of diversity, equity, and inclusiveness across our PSU community.
- Planning and implementation of an IS 4xxx Integration course – Special Topics in Diversity, to be taught during the fall semester following the fellowship year.
- Serve as a member and assistant to the Chair of the President’s Commission on Diversity.
- Provide mentorship to the incoming Diversity Faculty Fellow.
- Consult with various departments across campus to provide support for intra-departmental multicultural initiatives as needed.
- Grant-writing and/or application for external funding for future diversity-related initiatives.
Application materials checklist:
- Application with Department Chair signature
- Application letter outlining qualifications for the fellowship and specific ideas for activities associated with the fellowship
- Brief CV [two-page] identifying experiences that represent multicultural scholarship, community work, and/or professional presentations
- Teaching philosophy that articulates ideas of diversity, social justice, cultural competence among and across the disciplines and a commitment to advocacy
- Proposal, action, and evaluation plans that demonstrate diversity praxis
- Professional letter of recommendation that speaks to the applicant’s diversity knowledge, skills, and abilities, advocacy efforts, and history of overall commitment to multiculturalism at the local, regional, national, and global levels
- Letter of student support that speaks to the applicant’s dedication to diversity at PSU, multicultural pedagogy, and student-centered, inclusive teaching and outreach practices.
