Composting:

PSU has included composting in its operation since the early eighties and the program has grown to be more appreciated over time.  The compost comes from all summer grass clippings, fall landscape cleanup of our beds, and any trimmings from our shrubbery and trees.  Approximately 50 yards of compost is produced yearly from this yard waste. An additional twenty yards are produced from the composting of fall leaves. These materials are composted in large piles in a special section of Langdon Park where they are turned by tractor periodically during the year.  After these piles have turned into "black gold" they are used for soil amendment and reused on campus landscape, flower beds, and our campus nursery.
