Grounds and Landscaping:
- This year an additional twelve bike racks have
been installed around campus bringing the total to approximately
twenty-eight. These are located across the campus at identified areas
of need.
- Beginning in 1989 the University turned its
core campus into a “walking campus" and closed the campus to vehicle
traffic. This has resulted in a reduction in roads and asphalt
hardscape around and between campus buildings. New plantings, lawn
and narrower profile walks have replaced city streets and interior
parking areas. This is an effort that will continue with the future
relandscaping of Highland Avenue between Hyde and Smith Hall.
- Perimeter parking has been significantly
increased and a campus-wide shuttle now offers continuous and
convenient service to students and staff. The shuttle service has
also included weekend runs to Walmart further reducing the need for
individual vehicle traffic.
- Fixtures designed to reduce light pollution
are being used when new exterior lighting is being added to the
campus as was done recently at Boyd and Prospect Halls.
- Photocells for automatic control of all
outdoor lighting fixtures have been installed including all the
outside apartment lights in Student Apartments.
- During the infrastructure upgrade of the
Student Apartments the streamlines and condensate were all replace
and the new lines installed in a tunnel system for increase lifespan
and efficiency. They also include automated balancing valves for
better heat distribution and energy efficiency. A new gravity waste
water system was installed replacing the old electrical pumping
station.
- At the Cogeneration Plant the University has
switched from the use of #6 fuel to cleaner burning number 2 fuel
for its power generation and the second generator has been upgraded
for greater capacity and efficiency.
- In the future Plymouth State University will
partner with Holderness to increase the green belt along the Pemi
River
