University Environmental Committee

Mission:

The mission of the University Environmental Committee (UEC) is threefold:

  1. to foster a heightened awareness on the part of Plymouth State University students, faculty, and staff of the environmental impact of the university community;
  2. to coordinate the research and analysis of ways to increase positive impacts on the environment and decrease negative impacts; and
  3. to facilitate actions and programs which will assist in improving the environmental awareness and knowledge of campus members and the campus-wide conservation of natural resources.

Areas for research, involvement, and action (revised April 9, 2003):

  1. campus awareness programs for students, faculty, and staff on the need to conserve
  2. campus environmental assessment
  3. climate change issues
  4. energy efficiency, conservation, renewables
  5. food issues / dining service
  6. "greening" the university curriculum
  7. hazardous materials
  8. landscaping
  9. purchasing / procurement
  10. recycling / campus waste reduction
  11. transportation / high efficiency vehicles / alternative-fueled vehicles
  12. water conservation and efficiency
  13. Earth Day events (ca. April 22 each year)
