A.P.E. Error Messages

Here are a few of the more common error messages you may encounter.

Maximize Compatibility
Simplify the Shape
PNG Options: Interlace

Maximize Compatibility

What this means:

This is an error message that will probably pop up when you save your image as a PSD file. A.P.E. explains why you would want to maximize this image's compatibility right on the error message. They're saying that if you choose not to maximize the compatibility of your image, it may show up incorrectly when you use your image in another program. It's generally a good idea to maximize the compatibility of your images.

If you'd like to never see this message again, follow these steps:

1. Go to Edit -> Preferences -> Saving Files.

2. A dialog box will pop up. In the Maximize PSD File Compatibility dropdown menu, choose the option Always.

3. Click OK.

Simplify the Shape

What this means:

If you click OK, this means that you'll no longer be able to change the properties of the shape or text you are working on. Make sure you're 100% sure about the changes you've made to the shape or text before you click OK -- you wouldn't want to have a spelling error in the final product like in the image below.

PNG Options: Interlace

What this means:

When you save a PNG, you have the option of interlacing the image. When you interlace an image, it does not affect the way the image looks. What it does is allows the image to show up more quickly during a file transfer, such as when you're loading a web page. However, it does take up more space than an non-interlaced image, and won't compress as easily as a non-interlaced image when you're trying to compress files. For this reason, we have not been interlacing our PNGs when we save them.

This is how we remember what interlacing means: if you want to save space, do not interlace.
