Saving for AnimationOverview: This tutorial will go over how to save a project so that it can be viewed as animation. |
|
| 1. Open the file you saved at the end of the Editing and Manipulating Layers tutorial. If you did not save the file, click here and save the file to your "My Documents" folder. Now, open animation_3.psd in A.P.E. | |
| 2. Make sure that all our layers are turned on, including the background layer. | |
NOTE: Our monkey faces need to be in numeric order in order for the next step to work. If they're not, click, hold and drag each layer so that “CHOMP” is the top-most layer, then “Monkey Face 4” below that, “Monkey Face 3,” etc. so they are in descending order until we reach the background layer. |
|
| 3. Click File --> Save for Web. A large dialog box will appear on your screen. | |
![]() |
|
| 4. Under the Preset heading, make sure the Optimized File Format dropdown menu is set to GIF. Also in Preset, click the check box Animate. | |
| 5. Under the heading Animation in the lower right of the dialog box, you'll notice a dropdown menu titled Frame Delay. This is where we can change the speed that the layers will scroll at, similar to a flip book. Click the dropdown and change the speed to 0.5. Click OK at the top of the dialog box. | |
| 6. A new dialog box will appear, called Saved Optimized As, asking for a title and destination for our animation. Name the file “Moneky_eating” using the _ instead of a space; it's best not to have spaces in the file name when saving for the web, so we replace the spaces with an _. Make sure that you're saving the animation on your “My Documents.” | |
| 7. Click Save. | |
Congratulations: You have now completed the final tutorial in the Animation Suite and are well on your way to creating fun A.P.E. animations. To view this animation go find it in your documents and open it in windows viewer or link it to a web page and view it in a browser. If you have followed all the steps correctly you should see a short animation of the monkey taking bites of the banana. Animation is a fun way to add a little pizzazz to you web projects. Try making some more animation reels using either custom shapes our your own hand drawings. Note that the more layers you have the longer and more complex your animation will look.
