Unit Plan RSS

This unit plan was created for my Social Studies Methods class, for a hypothetical class tha i would teach. This class would teach students about some of the differnent governemts that have been developed and how they affect their states, countries and world.

Standards

This Unit Plan addressed a few standards and the main one was NCSS Standard IX, Global Connections.  This standard is important, simply because it connects things that happen all over the world.  It makes you look at events in perspective with one another. This unit also placed a strong emphasis on standard VI, Power, Authority, and Governance.  I did this because this standardis directly related to governement.

Reflection

I created this unit plan for my Social Studies Methods Class.  It is intended to teach students about governments and how they are affected by the world. I never got to present this unit to a class but I feel it has all the makings of an effective unit that could be taught in a classroom. It is lecture based since thats where i feel more comfortable but i did plan factor in a few activities to get the students more involved. Its assessment, is for the students to type an essay abnot a form of government that they learned about in the unit.  The rubric lays out simple guidelines that are easy to follow, and show they students what they need to do to receive an A on their essay.

Lesson 1 RSS

Reflection

This was the first lesson plan i worked on it went rather went rather well. The theme for it was the Underground Rail Road and it was directed at addressing why someone would put their life on the line for a slave and all the consequences that come with that. We forgot to mention some elements during the lecture portion of the class so the activity was made slightly more complicated due to a lack of some information. The majority of the class went rather well however.

Standards

NCSS

#2 Time, continuity, and change

#9 Power, authority, and governance

Theme H – Individualism, equality, and authority

This lesson was planned to address NCSS II: Time, Continuity, and Change - NCSS XI: Power, Authority, and Governance. This lesson was aimed at addressing the changing attitudes towards slaves over the course of time as well as the examination of the power and authority the white masters exercised to keep the slaves downtrodden and suppressed. Also this class discussed the risks black and white people took to get slaves to safer areas.

Lesson 2 RSS

Reflection

This is a lesson that i taught to my fellow Studentes in my Social Studies Methods class. It was about the Native americans map making and how it compares to the british system. It was designed to last about 15 mins and include a primary source and an assessment. I was able to get the primary source but i didnt incorperate an assessment. It was an oversight on my part that I watch out for now. I was nervous but i think that the lesson was going in a good direction before i started to loose my focus and got sidetracked but it was a learning experience and I'm thankful for it.

Standard

Time, Continuity and Change

SS: GE: 1 The world in spatial terms The students will demonstrate the ability to use maps and other graphic tools and technologies to acquire, process, report and analyze geographic information.

This lesson was designed to see how map making has changed from the Native Americans’ style of landmarks and abstract measurements to the European style of exact measurements and grid system. Students will look at the way maps have changed over the course of time and how this altered people’s perception of maps.

Lesson 3 RSS

Standards

The Standards for this lesson were the NCSS Theme III: People, Places, and Environments and the NCSS Theme V: Individuals, Groups, and Institution. During the lesson we focused on how American Citizens reacted to the Government’s policies, handling of, and dealings with the Vietnam War. We did however focus more on the time frame during the war itself than on the war's aftermath. Which was for a later class.

Reflection

This is a short lesson that I taught to a 9th grade honors class at Laconia Highschool. It focused on the events of the Vietnam Protests. I wasnt as prepared as i shoul've been and I should’ve brought in an activity to further flush out the main ideas of the topic of the class. By the time  ran out of time and matirial i felt that the students were able to take some information away from the class and to me thats all that really matters.

This is the midterm I wrote for my World History since 1500 class I had with Dr. Howarth. This was a paper of essays about various events that happened in the history of the world. These events ranged from the Columbian Exchange and Slavery to Zheng He and his Treasure Fleet. Nationalism, Socialism and Imperialism were all covered as well.

Standards
