The Monongahela Conference was initiated by Tim Collins and Reiko Goto thorugh the STUDIO for Creative Inquiry at Carnegie Mellon University. After convening a summit of environmental and community artists, designers, and architects, teams were formed to work in post-industrial communities in the Mon Valley in Western Pennsylvania. Their goal was to generate public discussion about the relationships between cities, nature, and the policies that govern them. Envisioning McKeesport was the result of one of the teams working in McKeesport comprised of Stephanie Flom, Jackie Brookner, and Ann Rosenthal..
