Joel Tauber’s 12-channel video installation and a series of photographs chronicle how the artist first fell in love with this forlorn tree and then embarked on a quest to improve its living conditions, to build a museum in its honor, and finally, to help it reproduce by planting 200 “tree babies” throughout California as a series of public art projects.
VISION SUMMARY: Part of what artists do and what art does is what artist Mierle Ukeles describes as putting a frame around something and saying “look at this.” Just as Joel Tauber has done with his lone Sycamour tree.
