In September, Charlotte Techen Lemgart, arrived at the Boston Logan Airport from Denmark with eight pairs of skis. According to the Global Education Office, Charlotte now holds the record for most number of bags brought to Plymouth State.
Charlotte has been skiing since she was five years old. Between the ages of 10 and 16 she was a member of the Danish Youth Team and participated in two World Cup races in Åre, Sweden, in the World Champions in Schladming, Austria, and at the Junior Olympics. She is now one of three Danish junior skiers on the Danish Team and is on the “short list” for the Winter Olympics in 2014.
While attending the Tärnaby Alpina Gymnasium (high school) in Sweden, Charlotte learned about Plymouth State University from Swedish skiers already at PSU. She Skyped with ski coach Andrew Gannon and after graduating from high school in Fall, 2013, she decided to continue her academic and skiing careers at PSU. She now majors in Exercise and Sport Physiology and is part of the PSU ski team.
“As a skier I have been travelling a lot and got used to different countries and cultures,” she says. “I love being part of a small community. People are really nice here and all of my professors and friends are very understanding of my challenges. They are all rooting for me.”
Charlotte has been training hard to qualify for the Olympics in Sochi. She will know by January 15, 2014, if she will compete.
