Plymouth State University welcomed 28 new international students to campus this fall. The 17 international undergraduate students represent Sweden, Egypt, Canada, Finland, Denmark, China, Slovakia, and Norway. These new students are studying Sports Management, Finance, Biology, Business, Athletic Training, Sports Physiology, Accounting, Tourism and Psychology.
Four new graduate students represent Saudi Arabia and Taiwan and are enrolled in the Masters of Education and Athletic Training programs.
PSU is also fortunate to welcome seven exchange students from England, France, Chile, and Hong Kong. They are studying Business, Psychology, Math, and English.
The new international students participated in an extensive orientation program in August which included cross-cultural awareness training and campus safety. They also participated in social activities with our Global Ambassadors (current PSU students who have received cross-cultural and leadership training to serve as mentors to our international student population). In addition, a group of 40 students traveled to the Lost River Gorge (picture below).
New PSU international students are engaged in the Strategies for Success class where they learn about being on a college campus in the United States. As part of the class, students attend workshops at the Center for Global Engagement on time management, study skills, and presentation strategies. International students are also encouraged to participate in our monthly Global Coffee Hour, outdoor activities in partnership with the Outdoor Center, and Language Circles at the Center for Global Engagement.
Welcome this wonderful new group of international students to campus and embrace the opportunities to assist them in adjusting to life at Plymouth State University.
