Are you looking for real-world business experience? The Small Business Institute® (SBI) at Plymouth State University gives MBA students like you a chance to serve local small businesses as members of consulting teams, earning elective course credit in the process. Your SBI team, along with a business faculty advisor, will visit your client company to define the scope of the project, execute the tasks you agree to complete for the client, then prepare and present a professional quality formal report.
Since 1974, students have won dozens of statewide, regional, and national awards in SBI competitions. Recent Small Business Institute® awards include:
- National First Place (2012, 2010, 2009, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 1999)
- National Second Place (2011, 2010, 2007, 2006, 2004, 2003, 2002, 2001, 2000)
- National Third Place (2008, 2006)
- National Fourth Place (2004)
- Regional First Place (six awards between 1999 – 2004)
- Showcase Award for Best SBI Program (2003)
If you are pursuing the Small Business and Entrepreneurship certificate or in conjunction with your MBA program, this six-credit SBI project is a requirement.
