Athletic Training admission requirements

The application deadline for admission into the Entry-level and Advanced Master's programs is February 1st of each year. All M.S. and M.Ed. in Athletic Training candidates must take the Graduate Record Examination. Applicants must schedule an appointment with the program advisor and submit a general graduate program application, as well as the following documents depending on the desired program of study:

Entry-level Master's applicants must submit the following documents by February 1st of each year:

  • Download a graduate program application (PDF) or call the College of Graduate Studies at (800) FOR-GRAD to have a copy mailed. Please be sure to include three letters of recommendation on the provided PSU recommendation forms. The letters should speak to your prior academic performance, any previous clinical work in sports medicine and other personal characteristics that would support your candidacy for the Master of Science in Athletic Training, Entry Level Concentration
  • Complete and submit the supporting materials package:
    • Prerequisite worksheet
    • Written documentation of 50 hours of observation under the supervision of a BOC certified athletic trainer.
    • A Physical Form must also be completed and submitted.

Additionally, applicants must:

  • Achieve a minimum grade of C in the following college/university courses (must be taken within the past seven years):
    • Anatomy (with lab) - 4 credits
    • Physiology (with lab) - 4 credits
    • Kinesiology - 3 credits
    • Exercise Physiology - 3 credits
    • Nutrition - 3 credits
    • Personal Health - 3 credits
    • Fitness Education and Assessment - 2-3 credits
    • First Aid and CPR (and current certification)
