Employment may vary from the traditional team coverage at academic institutions to providing services in outpatient rehabilitation clinics, work hardening centers and functioning as physician extenders. The athletic trainer may be involved in pre-game taping and strapping, practice and game medical coverage, short term and long tern rehabilitation, and injury assessment. An athletic trainer initiates injury prevention as well as strength and conditioning programs, and provides consultations for nutritional concerns and injury coping strategies.
