The positions will be located on Mt Washington, so the right candidates will be willing (nay, excited!) to spend one week on the summit and then have a week off in an ongoing two week cycle. Each week-long shift will have three full-time workers; a meteorologist, an educator, and an IT expert. We already have the two meteorologists, so we’ll be hiring two educators and two IT people. A central part of all the jobs is observing the weather, but the applicants don’t have to be Met majors. The ability and eagerness to learn the basics of weather would be enough. The education positions, which we have titled "Outreach Observer", will be responsible for imparting knowledge on people of all ages. Sometimes that means giving tours of our facility, teaching school groups, lecturing via video conference, and occasionally being interviewed on live national television. The Outreach Observers will be the public face of the Observatory, and as such will tell people about our mission as well as the climate and weather on Mt Washington. The two "IT Observers", in addition to observing the weather, will take charge of technology-related projects on the summit. Every possible aspect of IT will at some point be on the IT Observers’ task list. Everything from PC hardware, software configuration, Windows and Linux server administration, networking at all layers, point-to-point wireless transmission, fiber optics, Ethernet, database maintenance, web development, programming, etc. We hope to find someone with diverse IT knowledge, but an aptitude and willingness to learn is more important.
