The Role of Educators and School Professionals in Early Recognition
Friday, April 24, 2009

Eating Disorders ConferenceEating disorders and obesity have become leading public health issues in our country. In a landmark announcement by the National Institute of Mental Health, "research tells us that anorexia nervosa is a brain disease with severe metabolic effects on the entire body. While the symptoms are behavioral, this illness has a biological core, with genetic components." Meanwhile, more than 30 percent of our children are now considered obese. A recent study states that more than 20 percent of college students believe they have suffered from an eating disorder.

"Untangling the Web of Disordered Eating and Weight Disorders: Knowledge, Tools, Strategies" provides up-to-date information on disordered eating and weight disorders, and covers new tools and strategies for dealing with these serious public health issues.
